Rani Mahal, also known as Ranighat Palace, is a historic palace located in Palpa district of Nepal. The palace was constructed by General Khadga Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana in 1893 and was designed by a British architect. The palace was built in honor of Khadga Shamsher’s wife Tej Kumari Devi, who had passed away, and its name “Rani Mahal” translates to “Queen’s Palace.”

The construction of Rani Mahal was accomplished using forced labor, and the palace was abandoned by Khadga Shamsher and his family when they fled to India in 1902. The palace was left without proper care, and by the end of the 20th century, it was in a state of disrepair. However, in 2017, the government of Nepal allocated funds for the restoration of the palace, and a museum was also established in the building. A new road was constructed along the bank of the Brangdi River to increase tourism in the area.

Today, Rani Mahal is a popular tourist attraction, attracting visitors with its intricate carvings, sculptures, and beautiful gardens and courtyards. Its historical significance, as well as its stunning architecture, make it a must-visit destination in Nepal.
